Music Materials & Instrument Purchases

To ensure there is no delay in learning, all necessary lesson, technique, and theory books will be added by the teacher as needed and billed through the studio on the following month’s tuition invoice. Books will be charged at their list price and will only be added if deemed essential by the teacher for instruction, or upon request by the student or parent (e.g., specific sheet music). Additional repertoire will be ordered through Musicnotes.com at a 15% discount, unless we are able to source it at no cost. Whenever possible, we will first check our Musescore, IMSLP, or chord chart libraries before making any purchases.

If you are looking to purchase a keyboard or other starter instruments, please refer to our recommendations at www.thewondernote.com/recs. Instruments on or off this list may be available through the studio at a minimum discount of 10%.

Makeups, Cancellations, & Subs:

    • Regular weekly lessons are continuous and do not permit “skipping” individual weeks. Students may register for lessons or request to discontinue lessons mid-month; however, for all active lesson commitments, students will receive makeup lesson tokens for any lessons they are unable to attend, provided the studio is notified in advance. The studio may also book non-recurring, non-regular lessons at a single rate of $95 per hour.

    • All lessons must be canceled at least eight (8) hours in advance to qualify for a makeup lesson token. Cancellations may be submitted through the student portal at www.thewondernote.com/portal or via text or email. In the event of an emergency, cancellations may be made by text or phone call to Hana Kim at (310) 650-3968.

    • Students may schedule makeup lessons with any instructor, subject to studio availability. Please note that the online portal only allows booking with the student’s assigned instructor. Makeup lessons with alternate instructors, as well as sibling makeup lesson swaps, must be arranged directly with the studio via text or email.

    • Failure to attend a scheduled lesson without prior notice will be considered a no-show. No-show lessons are forfeited and are not eligible for a makeup lesson.

    • Effective September 1, 2025, students may not accumulate more than twelve (12) makeup lessons at any given time. Any makeup lessons accrued beyond this limit are subject to will be forfeited and may not be used.

    • Makeup lessons do not expire while the student remains actively enrolled.

    • Makeup lessons may not be used as currency and may not be applied toward lessons or classes in which the student is already enrolled.

    • Once a lesson is canceled through the student portal, a makeup lesson token will be issued. Makeup lessons may be scheduled with any instructor by contacting the studio via email or text. Students may also book makeup lessons directly with their assigned instructor through the student portal. All makeup lessons are subject to instructor availability, which may vary from week to week.

    • Makeup lesson tokens do not expire while the student remains actively enrolled and may be transferred to immediate family members. One makeup token is equivalent to the student’s standard lesson duration and may be used fractionally; any remaining unused time will remain as a balance on the account. Multiple makeup tokens may also be combined to schedule a longer makeup lesson.

    • In the rare event that an instructor must cancel, students agree that the lesson may be taught by a substitute instructor. If a substitute is not available and the lesson cannot be rescheduled, the lesson will be canceled and the payment will be credited back to the card or Zelle account on file.

    • Upon withdrawal from lessons, students will have six (6) months from the official withdrawal date to use any remaining makeup lessons. After this period, unused makeup lessons will be forfeited.

Withdrawing Process:

    • To withdraw from any private lessons, please email thewondernote@gmail.com. Once tuition is processed, lessons must be completed or cancelled for a makeup lesson.

    • Lessons must be cancelled 7 days prior to the next billing month.

    • Once statement of withdrawal is given to an administrator, your slot will no longer be held and be made available to students on our waitlist.

MyMusicStaff.com:

All students will be registered for MyMusicStaff.com account when signing up for the studio. Having this account will allow you to cancel and reschedule lessons with a makeup token at your convenience. In addition, this service will allow you to daily keep up with scheduled lesson with lesson reminders, in case any makeup lessons are booked or changes occur such as lesson cancellations, etc. There will also be some valuable resources such as practice logs, downloadable resources from teachers, and teacher notes that teachers may give after each lesson for practice updates or progress reports.

Student Recordings:

    • Voice students who are opted into student recordings will receive their recordings 1-3 weeks after recording. Though recordings are done regularly throughout the year, they are edited and sent out all once twice a month so depending on when the student records, they may receive them quickly or within a few weeks. Please be patient as we do promise students will receive all that is recorded.

    • All recordings will be an acoustic version (either with piano or guitar accompaniment). Tracks will not be used due to commercial copyright reasons and any songs that wished to be produced at a higher level (full band, producing, etc) would be considered a studio/production project and are not included in student recordings.

Studio Etiquette:

    • We do find students generally thrive when lessons are completely private. However, if your child is small or you’d like to learn alongside your child, we ask that no more than one adult sit in during lessons.

    • For the safety and health of all our students and staff, if you are feeling ill with cold like symptoms, we ask that you call and reschedule your lesson to ensure the safety and health of all students.

Recitals:
Effective January 2026, The Wonder Note will host two (2) recitals per year—Spring and Winter. All students are encouraged to participate regardless of age or skill level. Recital fees will vary by event and are determined by venue, production requirements, and accommodations.
